Last summer I made several recordings in photography galleries.  Click on museums and you can hear them.  You will put them on your iPod.   I also recording the photography section at the Strand Bookstore. I recorded in the photography section of McKay's Used Books in Chattanooga.  I purchased Readymades published by Chronicle.  .  . and Meatyard's Aperture book.   Actually, I traded in some old stuff and used the credit to get these books and other books about sharks and spiders for kids.  I haven't posted the Strand recording.  I think I will go look for it...until I do, here is McKays.

This is a short one.  James Christianson is a friend of mine.  We used to teach at the same high school.   Jim asked me to come along and assist in photographing a wedding in Montana. I took that photo of him above off the side of a road in Bozeman  In this short interview, he talks about the light (in the photos below) that appeared after a rain storm. Oh yea, and that rainbow.  Another friend Jason was also there.  His interview will be posted soon.  There is some of that light below. . . See Jim's work HERE.

I'm going to Montana tomorrow to assist my good friend Jim with photographing a wedding.  Remind me to put the Bruce Weber quote about weddings.  I'm also going to interview Jim with my audio recorder.  I have some audio I need to edit of Jim and I in  New York photographing a wedding. We were trying to get into that military school. I can't remember the name of it right now.  We kept running into guards.  I have audio of that.  Jim, that was 3 years ago.  Now I'm in Montana. Photos from new iphone.  I can post on Typepad using iphone.

I'm going to be posting a few quotes mingled with my audio and image posts.  Here is a quote from Nicholas Mirzoeff's What is visual culture?  "Yet the visual is not simply the medium of information and mass culture.  It offers a sensual immediacy that cannot be rivalled by print media: the very element that makes visual imagery of all kinds distinct from texts.  This is not at all the same thing as simplicity but there is an undeniable impact on the first sight that a written text cannot replicate (p.9).

Superbomba is a Flickr member with a giant collection of lost-and-found photographs.  Superbomba appears to be interested in more recent images than older images often showcased in "found" photo groups.  Blue leather shorts. I love Superbomba's collection.

 
So I'm talking to Marilyn (Earth Mother Flower Essences and Vibrational Healing) and somehow the topic of flower essence came up. I can't remember how. I asked her if she ever used photography during her sessions. "Oh sure." I think she said. I said "WAIT!" and grabbed my recorder. Here is our conversation.  Hear how she uses photographs in flower essence sessions. And why she believes people take photographs of flowers.  And if you don't know what flower essence is (I didn't) she talks about that too.  The photo above was taken in Orlando, FLA.

I dropped the camera (below) in the ocean (at Good Harbor, Gloucester MA). I told my kids about it in the car afterwards and recorded it.  Since I've dropped it, I've been using the audio recorder when we go out.  More on this later.  I was able to rescue the memory card with the last photographs on it.  Little beach snapshots.

Last Fall, I interviewed Larry Volk about his A Story of Roses project.  He told me about a trip he was taking to France to explore and document MORE for this project. I sent an audio recorder (the one in the picture) with him to record his thoughts.  I will be talking more about sending people audio recorders to people later. Here is the short interview I did with him before he left. 

(From our interview last Fall) This is a short conversation I had with photography professor Larry Volk (Endicott College) about his project,  "A Story of Roses."  I remember talking to Larry about this project when I started putting together my dissertation site and thinking this is ALL about lost (loss) and found (discovery). I found Laura Noel's work while I was at my parents house in North Georgia. I Googled Atlanta and photographer or something like that and then found Laura Noel.  I don't know if Laura considers herself a Southerner. I don't even know if she is from the South. . . but her portraits really have a Southern feel to them.  I'm sure there is a better way to say that.  And now I'm going to find out that most of the portraits were taken somewhere else. Like Nova Scotia.  See more of her work HERE.

Here is an image from Strangers & not so strange by CE Nelson.  Nelson writes: "This project is being shot exclusively on Fujifilm FP-100C instant film, using a Mamiya RB67 Pro-S fixed with a Polaroid back."  These portraits are beautiful.  Beautiful. 

This is a photograph from Kate Hutchinson's Irish Grandmother series.  Photo-within-a- photo. Not unlike the play-within-a-play.  I love it. I love the project.
