Natalie on fotolog.net was one of the first "found" photo sites I saw on the Internet. It was during my fotolog.net days. The last post was April 11, 2004. The photos are still there. They write on the ABOUT page: "We thought these pictures should be seen. There are too many gems here to be left to rot in a funky smelling shop with a cranky, overweight, biting cat on Manhattan Avenue.
So Natalie started a fotolog... with these amazing photos from the previous 3 decades."
The “Natalie” link is a unique look at a piece of someone's life. It is always sad to find a photo that is a lost treasure from some family's history, but a losing a whole series depicting all or part of a life is certainly a tragedy.
I think most “found” photo collectors enjoy our hobby in many ways. We marvel at the historical values, the photo techniques and the characters portrayed. We have fun speculating of the story behind the photo and its origin, but most of us would agree, stumbling on to the rightful owner (or descendant) of an abandoned photo is our greatest reward.
The net gives us a vast album to display our little chips of family histories that have gotten shuffled into obscurity somehow. And cross references such as your “Natalie” link here makes turning the pages a pleasure. Good work.
