Slate's John Waters interview

Here is a little sliver from Slate's John Waters interviw that caught my eye.

“I take a Polaroid of every person that’s ever been in my house … from the phone man to the worst night I ever had,” he explains. He takes just one shot. “Nobody can see [it] until I’m dead and they’re [all] dead,” he says cheerfully as he files us away.

I'd like to see that book someday. I think I might start some blog type posts here. To go along with the audio. Yes. I think I will.

I interviewed Panizza at IVSA 2007.  Our posters were right next to each other.  I wish I'd taken a photo of her poster. I'd post it right HERE.  But this is "talk" about the visual.  So here is a short interview (4 minutes or so) with Panizza.  I wish it were longer.

Priya Kambli at SPE 2010

Miriam Romais introduced me to Priya Kambli at SPE this year.  I recorded a series of conversations with photographers to post/share on the En Foco website (coming soon).  After talking to Priya, I jokingly told Miriam I wasn't going to let her have this one because I wanted it for Photos Die. . . especially because of the work with family photography.  Listen.  I love how the sisters trade photos back and forth like sports cards.

 

Family Photos in Therapy: An interview with John Kelley, Psychotherapist (from 2008)

John Kelley, Ph.D.  is an Assistant Associate Professor of psychology and math at Endicott College in Beverly, MA. His office is right across the hall from mine.  He also practices psychotherapy.  Right before winter break I cornered him in the hall and asked him if I could ask him a few questions about the use of family photos in therapy.  Here is our conversation.

 

But you've got another camera that works

I dropped the camera (below) in the ocean (at Good Harbor, Gloucester MA). I told my kids about it in the car afterwards and recorded it.  Since I've dropped it, I've been using the audio recorder when we go out.  More on this later.  I was able to rescue the memory card with the last photographs on it.  Little beach snapshots.

Kevin Von Qualen: 8mm & Intimate America

I interviewed Kevin Von Qualen back in May (2011) in New York City.  He talked about his work with 8mm and his personal project, Intimate America.  Enjoy.  Go HERE if you are listening on an iPhone / iPad.  I took the photo of Kevin in New York on later trip. Kevin took the photo of the barn and stars as part of his Intimate America Project.  He has promised to send some audio from his great-grandfather's tapes.  Send me the audio Kevin.

Baby Birds

In a park near our house there is a tank. Iryzk Park. The tank doesn't work (duh). It's just parked there.  I guess kids can climb on it. We don't go there very often. The other day my son was near the tank and he heard baby birds.  He investigated.  We stuck the H2 Zoom near the nest that was wedged way back. The Strand Bookstore Photography Section

At The Strand Bookstore: James bought a William Eggleston book. I bought a Shaun Tan book for my son's birthday. Kevin bought . . . what did Kevin buy?  I recorded audio from the photography section.  Hear the squeaky floors?  Photo by James playing around with his Contax 645. I'm marking this trip (NYC, The Strand) as a return to film.  I'll be posting an interview with Kevin soon. HERE is an (old) discussion with James about a double rainbow.

What does the Brooklyn Bridge sound like?

Or what it sounded like on May 14th for about 30 minutes, early afternoon.   I walked across the bridge from Financial District to the New York Photo Festival (audio coming soon).  On my way back, I held my audio recorder out and made this recording.
